Stephanopoulos book to pull back curtain on the Situation Room

A new book from George Stephanopoulos promises to give readers a front row seat in the Situation Room, including the “first ever account of Jan. 6 from the staff inside” the super-secret White House space.

“The Situation Room,” from the longtime co-anchor of ABC’s “Good Morning America” and former senior adviser to President Clinton, will lift the veil on the “epicenter of crisis management for presidents for more than six decades,” the book’s publisher announced Tuesday.

“No room better defines American power and its role in the world than the White House Situation Room. And yet, none is more shrouded in secrecy and mystery,” a news release said.

Stephanopoulos’s book with Lisa Dickey will include a “vivid retelling of the harrowing hours during the 9/11 attack,” “new details from Obama administration officials leading up to the raid on Osama bin Laden” and “incredible minute-by-minute transcripts” after the shootings of President Kennedy and and President Reagan.

Staff present in the Situation Room in 2021 during the Jan. 6 attack at the Capitol by supporters of then-President Trump will also recount their experiences, Stephanopoulos’s publisher said.

“The decisions made in that windowless warren in the basement of the West Wing have determined the fate of presidents and shaped the course of history. Yet relatively little has been written about it and the people who work there,” Stephanopoulos said in a statement, according to ABC News.

“When I discovered that fact, I knew I had to write this book,” the 62-year-old “This Week” host said.

“The Situation Room” is poised to be released May 14.
