Stephen King, Great Depression gangsters: TheatreZone goes bold for 2023-24

The new TheatreZone season will go bold.

Musicals for 2023-24 that the North Naples theater company recently announced offer a variety, from light comedies to a bit darker material.

Here's what to know about the upcoming shows and concerts from TheatreZone:

From 'Reefer Madness,' 'Legally Blonde' creators

"Heathers: The Musical" — Billed as "hilarious, heartfelt and homicidal," story focuses on an Ohio high school teen drama from the creative team who brought us "Reefer Madness," "Desperate Housewives" and "Legally Blonde." Joint production of TheatreZone and Florida Gulf Coast University’s Bower School of Music, see it at the FGCU Theatre Lab, 10501 FGCU Blvd. S., Fort Myers. Oct. 12-15

"Home for the Holidays" — Hear memorable holiday songs, performed by a professional cast and a live orchestra. Conceived and directed by Mark Danni, TheatreZone founding artistic director, with choreography by Karen Molnar Danni. Dec. 16-17

"Bonnie & Clyde: The Musical" — Story of ill-fated lovers set to music. Jan. 11-14, 2024

Memphis, where it all began

"Million Dollar Quartet" — Musical focusing on one night in December 1956 at Sun Records in Memphis. And a twist of fate brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley together for one of the greatest jam sessions ever at the studio where they launched their careers. Feb. 8-11 and Feb. 15-18

A Neil Simon musical comedy

Neil Simon's "Little Me" — Story is based on 1955 novel "Auntie Mame: An Irreverent Escapade," by Patrick Dennis. The show debuted on Broadway in 1962 and ts ongoing appeal and success inspired several revivals and multiple Tony Award nominations. The 1998 revival starred Martin Short who won the Tony Award for best actor in a musical. March 7-10 and March 14-17

Stephen King's Carrie comes to life

"Carrie: The Musical" — A melodic take on Stephen King’s 1974 debut novel, “Carrie,” and the classic 1976 film. The 1988 musical adaptation was revived off-Broadway in 2012, receiving multiple award nominations and the Best Off-Broadway Musical award from the Off-Broadway Alliance. April 25-28 and May 2-5, 2024

Elizabeth Ward Land’s Tribute to Linda Ronstadt: "Still Within the Sound of My Voice" — Broadway veteran and national touring star Elizabeth Ward Land brings her award-winning Linda Ronstadt tribute to TheatreZone in Still Within the Sound of my Voice. Soaring vocals, gorgeous arrangements and sumptuous harmonies. 4 and 7 p.m. Jan. 15

The Mersey Beatles: "Four Lads from Liverpool" — The Mersey Beatles are back at TheatreZone on the 60th anniversary of the British invasion! Book soon for the entire “Hard Day’s Night” album and a new “Beatlemania” song lineup. 4 and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20

John Ford Coley (Formerly of England Dan & John Ford Coley) — John Ford Coley brings multiple talents to TheatreZone as a singer, songwriter, guitarist, classically trained pianist, actor, and author. He entertains with heart and humor, and a unique smooth rock sound. 4 and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 22

Larry & Adolpho: "The Dummy’s Guide to Love Songs" — TheatreZone favorites, Larry Alexander and Adolpho Blaire, go on a musical journey through the greatest songs ever written about that crazy little thing called love. A touching, funny show with tunes from popular composers. 7:30 p.m. March 12, 2024
