Stephen Mulhern has confirmed he's in talks to host Dancing on Ice, following Phillip Schofield's resignation from ITV earlier this year.

Mulhern previously guest-hosted the reality skating show back in 2022 alongside Holly Willoughby, when Schofield had to self-isolate following a positive COVID-19 test. He also hosted a spin-off programme called Dancing on Ice Defrosted in the early days of the series.

"I used to do the spinoff show Defrosted and when I stood in for Phil when he wasn't too well, he had Covid, I really enjoyed it and it was so lovely being back with Holly," Mulhern told MailOnline.

"We had a great time together plus lots of the team were the same from when I did the ITV2 show."

Mulhern went on to tease: "We are talking about it, but I promise you now that nothing is confirmed but if it happens, it will be absolutely amazing. If it doesn't, look, it doesn't."

The In for a Penny host added he was "keeping across the lineup, just in case", describing the 2024 cast of celebrity contestants as "the best it has been in a few years".

ITV has not made any announcements about hosts or judges for the new series of Dancing on Ice, and it hasn't confirmed whether Willoughby will return.

Last week, she announced her exit from ITV's daytime show This Morning after 14 years, saying she felt she had to make the decision "for me and my family".

"To everyone who has ever worked on the show over the years, thank you so much," she said.

Thanking ITV for their support, Willoughby added: "This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we've done together."

Dancing on Ice airs on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
