Stetson Hatters host Princeton in Week 3, hoping for their first 3-0 start since 2018

Two games — and two wins — into the 2022 season, the Stetson Hatters are already editing their record books and picking up accolades.

They beat Concordia 24-14 and followed up with a 45-14 victory over Louisiana Christian. Now, the Hatters host Princeton in Week 3 to round out their non-conference schedule.

Stetson met Princeton for the first time ever last season, when the Tigers dominated 63-0 at home. They went on to a 9-1 record and a share of the Ivy League title with Dartmouth. Saturday will be their first game of 2022.

Stetson football has started 2-0 for the second consecutive year.

So far, Stetson has had a hot September.

Sophomore quarterback Brady Meitz began the year as the backup before starter Alex Piccirilli suffered an injury in the first quarter of their opener. Meitz came in and has lit up the scoreboard since, tossing for 794 yards and four touchdowns in the two contests.

In his first collegiate start last week, he became just the second Stetson quarterback to throw for 400 yards in a game, with 444 against Louisiana Christian. The Pioneer League rewarded Meitz with its Offensive Player of the Week award.

The defense has remained solid, too, allowing only 28 total points and causing six turnovers. Redshirt junior defensive back Rassie Littlejohn and redshirt senior linebacker Majeste’ Hansberry claimed the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week honors in Week 1 and 2, making it the second time in program history that Stetson defenders have earned the recognition in consecutive weeks.

The Hatters kick off with Princeton at 1 p.m. Saturday at Spec Martin Memorial Stadium. The game will air on ESPN+.
