Kerr cites Boogie when talking Klay's Achilles injury rehab originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

The Warriors have been here before. They know what it takes to come back from an Achilles injury, and how the injury deserves time and patience.

All they have to do is look at another former All-Star when dealing with Klay Thompson's current recovery from a torch Achilles.

"We have experience with this with DeMarcus Cousins a few years ago," Steve Kerr said Saturday. "There's definitely a very deliberate plan that involves more and more work, but making sure we're not skipping any steps."

Cousins saw his 2017-18 campaign with the New Orleans Pelicans come to an end when he tore his Achilles during his 48th game played of that season. The Warriors signed him in the offseason and he went on to play 30 regular-season games with Golden State. Cousins played just 25.7 minutes per game, the lowest of his career at that point, and his 16.3 points per game were his lowest since his rookie year.

Thompson has missed the last two seasons after first tearing his ACL in the NBA Finals and then tearing his Achilles ahead of last season.

As the Warriors wait for the return of their star shooting guard, his progress seems to be getting better every day.

"He's doing more and more each day," Kerr said. "He's doing both rehab in the weight room and training room, but also court work. He's doing a lot of movement. One-footed movements to continue to build the strength up in the Achilles and the foot in general. More and more shooting, ballhandling, sliding.

"His next step will be to start playing 2-on-2, 3-on-3, that kind of stuff and then we'll continue to ramp him up."

Thompson is expected to return around Christmas. Kerr already has said that Klay's first game back will be at Chase Center, which will bring a wild Warriors crowd to their feet for a long time.
