Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy introduced three new hires to the District Attorney's office Monday.

Gerald Skahan, Haden Lawyer and Nicole Harris are slated to start Oct. 17. Skahan will operate as the office's special assistant for post-conviction litigation and Laywer will be an assistant district attorney. Harris will be Mulroy's new public information officer.

"These additions to our team represent diversity, experience, and above all, an abiding interest in delivering equal justice under the law for everyone in Shelby County," Mulroy said in a statement. "I'm gratified that they have chosen to join our office and I will rely on their leadership as we strive to create the most effective DA office possible."

Skahan graduated from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 1991 and went on to start the Shelby County Mental Health Court, of which he presided as judge from 2014 through 2022. He lost his reelection campaign by 3,460 votes. He was also the chief defender of the Shelby County Public Defender's capital defense team who practiced criminal defense law at a private practice.
