Steve-O, 209 Beatdown XVII and more: Stockton arts, entertainment events in January

Entertainment events are getting underway in San Joaquin County. The January lineup includes art exhibitions, classical music concerts, an entertaining performance by the Harlem Globetrotters.

And if you are into cage fighting, look no further than the 209 Beatdown making its return later this month.

Delta College art faculty exhibition

Delta College Visual Art and Multimedia Art Departments faculty and adjacent faculty will present their work in an exhibition by the Horton Art Gallery. The gallery will include contemporary art, artist talks, and workshops in support of the visual arts curriculum to teach in the aesthetic, technical, cultural, and historical context of the visual arts.

The exhibition is closed for winter break through Jan. 16. After, it opens back up and closes Feb. 3.

The Harlem Globetrotters at the Stockton Arena

The Harlem Globetrotters are bringing their basketball skills to Stockton this January with their 2023 World Tour. Watch the team dunk, jump and spin the basketball with your family.

Storytime at the Tiny Library at Weberstown Mall

Storytime at the Weberstown Mall Tiny Library near Sears and LensCrafters continues this January with a special guest reader, Elsa from Arendelle. The free family event will include stories, crafts and snacks. This is an event sponsored by Family Resource & Referral Center and 2-1-1 San Joaquin.

209 Beatdown XVII

The 209 Beatdown XVII Extreme Cage Fighting is back at the Stockton Civic Auditorium. An event presented by JR Entertainment with live amateur MMA cage fights, title belts in middleweight, bantamweight, welterweight, featherweight and heavyweight fights.

When: Doors open at 4 p.m. and fights start at 5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14

Stockton Symphony: Pictures at Atherton Auditorium

The Stockton Symphony kicks off its season in the new year with the Symphony Pictures at Atherton Auditorium featuring guest artist Gabriela Martinez on the piano.

The conductor is Peter Jaffe. The program includes timpanist Alex Orfaly, a soloist performs a Sergei Rachmaninoff piece, and other music to be performed is from Modest Mussorgsky and Maurice Ravel.

The Stockton Symphony will also have a series of concerts it calls “Steppin' Out” that will run from Jan. 24 through Jan. 26.

When: 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 21 and 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22

Comedian and stunt performer Steve-O will be in Stockton at the Bob Hope Theatre as part of his The Bucket list Tour. This is an 18+ event that is X-rated.

When: 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26

David Garibaldi, Paint with Purpose at the Bob Hope Theatre

American performance painter David Garibaldi will be at the Bob Hope Theatre in support of the Stockton Animal Protection League (APL), Haggin Museum, and the Stockton Symphony “splashing paint” and creating portraits on stage.

He creates large-scale portraits on stage in just a few minutes with music in the background. Garibaldi's work can be found on YouTube as he paints on live streams. He has also painted live in front of companies such as AT&T and Disney. He has participated in other charity events for the NBA, Snoop Dog and others.
