Police have launched an urgent appeal to find a convicted sex offender who was previously described as a “danger to women”.

Steven Thrower, who is in his 50s, was released from prison after serving a sentence for a sexual assault in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire.

But after he failed to comply with notification requirements following his release, West Yorkshire Police are now trying to trace his whereabouts.

Investigators believe Thrower is still in the country and may have travelled to North Yorkshire, where he is believed to have links in Harrogate and York.

He is described as a white male, of medium build with a bald head and a scar at the top of his head.

Thrower also has several tattoos including a Pegasus on his left arm, and swallow on his right arm and tattoos of various names.

The image released by police was taken in July 2008 so officers believe he may have changed his appearance significantly since then.

Anyone with information that could assist in locating Thrower is asked to contact police in Bradford on 101, or by using the LiveChat on the West Yorkshire Police website.

Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or online.
