Stevens Point School Board seeks candidate to fill vacancy created by resignation

STEVENS POINT – The Stevens Point Area Public School District is seeking applications to fill a vacancy on its School Board.

Mike Wade resigned in February after receiving a job offer out of state, and the board decided to fill the position at a special meeting April 24 so the new member can be sworn in with the newly elected members at the reorganization meeting also scheduled for April 24, Sarah O’Donnell, the district’s director of communications, told the Stevens Point Journal Wednesday.

The selected candidate will be sworn in along with incumbent Gee Pope and newcomers Alex Sommers and Ted Kowalski, who were elected by voters to three-year terms during Tuesday’s election.

The newly appointed board member will serve until the April 2024 spring election and at that time a successor will be elected to serve a three-year term.

To be considered for the appointment, candidates must submit an application and declaration of candidacy form by 4 p.m. April 19 to the attention of Karlyn Krautkramer, Board Secretary, at the Office of the Superintendent located at 1900 Polk St., Stevens Point, WI 54481.
