RAPID CITY — Rapid City Stevens crowned four singles champions and also took the third flight of doubles to successfully defend their championship in the state Class AA high school girls tennis tournament that concluded on Friday.

The Raiders scored 479 points to easily top the 14-team field. Sioux Falls O'Gorman edged Sioux Falls Lincoln 370-368 for second place and Watertown (275.5), Sioux Falls Jefferson (233.5) and Aberdeen Central (229) rounded out the top six teams.

Senior Anna Mueller repeated as the third-flight singles champion and senior Kaiya Parkin took the fourth flight, a year after winning the sixth flight, to spark Stevens. Freshman Arabella Scott and senior Evelyn Haar added singles championship in the fifth and sixth flights, respectively. All four of the Raiders' singles champions were seeded No. 1.

Mueller also teamed with senior Lindsey Pfingston to win the third flight of doubles. Mueller and Pfingston were also seeded No. 1. Senior Alastrina Scott and junior Peyton Ogle (first flight) and Arabella Scott and Parkin (second flight) each added runner-up finishes for coach Jason Olson's Raiders.

"The three teams that beat us in duals (Stevens, O'Gorman and Lincoln) all finished ahead of us at state," said Watertown head coach Ryan Zink.

Sioux Falls Jefferson junior Avery Summers (first flight) and Sioux Falls Lincoln sophomore Charlotte Crawford (second flight) also repeated as singles champions in the same flights from 2021. Summers was seeded No. 1 and Crawford No. 4.

Other doubles champions included Sioux Falls O'Gorman seniors Maya Jamous and Ashlyn Garry (first flight) Watertown senior Jaida Young and freshman Leyla Meester (second flight). Young and Meester were seeded No. 1 and Jamous and Garry No. 5.

Watertown senior Josie Heyn advanced to the fourth-flight singles championship before falling to Anna Mueller. Sophomore Ellie Zink took fourth at No. 2 singles, sophomore Sophia Nichols fifth at No. 6 and Meester sixth at No. 3.

"Jaida and Leyla finished the season undefeated and played some great tennis," said Zink. "We had some big singles wins with Jaida beating a Lincoln girl she had lost to during the season to make it to the semis, Ellie was the No. 6 seed and knocked off Brandon Valley girl before losing a third-set tiebreaker in the semis and Heyn made it to the finals before also losing a third-set tiebreaker.

"I'm very proud of the girls for their tremendous season with only three losses and an ESD (Eastern South Dakota Conference title). We are going to miss Jaida and Josie next year. You couldn't ask for better kids to coach and they are amazing teammates."

Third-place singles finishes by senior Emily Ringgenberg (first flight), junior Laney Gonsor (fifth flight) and freshman Avery Tennant (sixth flight) paced Aberdeen Central. Senior Alice Vogel took ninth in the second flight. Ringgenberg received the Spirit of Max Award and the Golden Eagles the tourney's Sportsmanship Award.
