Stihl Recalls 16,400 Pressure Washers

Stihl has recalled approximately 16,400 Stihl RE 90 gas pressure washers because the nozzle can detach during use, posing an injury hazard.
The company has received seven reports of the nozzle detaching during use, but there are no reports of injuries. Consumer Reports has not tested this pressure washer.
It bears reminding that pressure washers are powerful tools that pose risks even when they function properly. A stream of water from a pressure washer can cut like a knife. Whenever you use a pressure washer, make sure there are no bystanders nearby, particularly children or pets. Also, make sure to wear protective gloves and eyewear, as well as long pants and closed-toe shoes or boots made from a thick material that can withstand the concentrated force of the water.
Details of the Stihl Pressure Washer Recall
The recall: About 16,400 Stihl RE 90 gas pressure washers sold exclusively at Stihl authorized dealerships. The recall applies to any RE 90 gas pressure washer, regardless of serial number.
The risk: The nozzle can detach during use, posing an injury hazard.
Incidents/injuries: Seven incidents of nozzle detachments have been reported, but there are no known injuries.
Where and when sold: Stihl authorized dealerships from May 2019 to October 2019. The pressure washer sold for about $180.
The remedy: Stop using the recalled pressure washer and contact Stihl or visit any Stihl authorized dealership. The company will provide a replacement spray wand.

A Word About Zero-Degree Nozzles
Like many models, this recalled Stihl pressure washer comes equipped with a fan jet nozzle that can be manually adjusted all the way down to zero degrees, producing what Consumer Reports feels to be a dangerously powerful stream of water. No matter which pressure washer you own, Consumer Reports recommends against using zero-degree nozzles.
