Still need your COVID vaccine? Get $50 when you get a shot in Kansas City on Saturday

If you like free money, Saturday’s vaccine event is for you. The Kansas City Health Department will hold a vaccination clinic at Smith-Hale Middle School on Saturday, Jan. 22.

The first approximately 130 guests will receive a $50 gift card for getting their first or second shot of any COVID-19 vaccine.

Recent data shows that case numbers in the metro area are continuing to rise, and local doctors and health officials continue to recommend vaccination as the best way to protect yourself, your loved ones and the rest of the community from getting sick from COVID-19.

Where and when is the vaccination clinic?

This pop-up clinic will operate for one day only at Smith-Hale Middle School, located at 9010 A Old Santa Fe Rd. The clinic will open at 9 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22. Multiple types of vaccinations will be available, including:

  • All vaccines required for school-aged children

  • All COVID-19 vaccinations for ages 5 and above

  • COVID-19 booster shots for eligible vaccinated people

Kids under 18 years old have some of the lowest vaccination rates in the area, and are being hospitalized at record-breaking numbers.

How will gift cards be distributed?

Gift cards will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the clinic runs out of gift cards, no more will be given out. Gift cards are only available to those receiving their first or second COVID-19 vaccine. Other types of vaccines and booster shots are also available, but recipients will not be eligible for a gift card.

Do I need to make an appointment?

No appointment is needed— simply walk in anytime between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. We recommend getting there early if you’re hoping to get a gift card. Masks are required inside the clinic.

“We are taking the vaccine to areas with low completed vaccination rates,” said Kansas City Health Department spokesperson Michelle Pekarsky in a statement. “We know families are busy and hope this weekend opportunity will bring in residents who live nearby.”

The highly contagious omicron variant may continue to cause record-breaking case numbers in Kansas City for weeks to come.
