Still on the grid, for now

Mar. 10—Santa Fe Community College faculty member Felix Voltsinger, 70, is in his final semester teaching and plans to live off the grid upon retirement — at 8,000 feet, near the Continental Divide, "with a tremendous view of the curvature of the Earth."

In the meantime, the plein-air artist's paintings and drawings will be featured in Land, Space and Color! — An Exhibit of Paintings by Felix Voltsinger from Thursday, March 16, through April 19. Voltsinger, who has taught painting and drawing at the college since 2008, was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and moved to New York City in the early 1980s. He moved to Colorado to paint landscapes, living in a cabin at 9,000 feet near Salida for more than a decade. An opening reception runs from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 16.
