Still Time To Vote; 35,000 People Cast Ballots Tuesday Morning
TAMPA, FL — Election Day is finally here. No more interminable campaign ads, repetitive rhetoric and yard signs flooding every intersection and street corner.
Now you can look forward to new national, state and local representatives that you helped elect.
If you aren't among the record number of Hillsborough County voters who cast your ballots by mail or at an early-voting site, here's what you need to know for Election Day, Nov. 3.
The polls opened at 7 a.m. and will remain open until 7 p.m. Florida law states that on Election Day you may only vote in the polling place assigned to your current residence address. You can find your polling place on individual precinct maps.
You should bring a Florida driver's license, Florida ID card (issued by DHSMV), U.S. passport, debit or credit card, military ID, student ID, retirement center ID, neighborhood association ID, public assistance ID, veteran health ID issued by the Veterans Administration, concealed weapon license, government employee ID.
If you do not bring an ID, you may vote a provisional ballot. These will be counted once you produce a valid ID.
After an initial rush to vote before heading to work, turnout has been relatively light in Hillsborough County. Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer attributes that to the record number of voters who cast their ballots at one of the early-voting sites or by mail.
In the first hour of Election Day voting, 16,778 voters cast ballots in Hillsborough County. As of 10 a.m., that number swelled to 34,956 voters has cast their ballots at one of the 390 precincts in Hillsborough County.
Overall, 637,639 voters have cast their ballots in the general election so far for a 70.52 percent turnout. Latimer said that's more voters than in the 2016 general election overall.
If you haven't yet mailed in your vote-by-mail ballot, it must be dropped off at one of the four Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections offices no later than 7 p.m. Tuesday.
They're located at
Fred B. Karl County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., 16th Floor, Tampa
Robert L. Gilder Elections Service Center, 2514 N. Falkenburg Road, Tampa
Northwest Regional Office, 4575 Gunn Highway, Tampa
Southeast Regional Office, 10020 S. U.S. 301, Riverview
Don't forget to sign your vote-by-mail envelope before returning it. And be consistent. Signatures are compared to those on file with the elections office.
