Stimmel captures Dressler Memorial golf tournament

May 3—Diamond Run golfer Rick Stimmel opened the 2021 local season by winning the Pennsylvania Golf Association's 80th Dressler Memorial Championship at Valley Brook Country Club.

Stimmel used six consecutive birdies in the first round and fired consecutive 3-under-par 69s to finish at 6-under, 138. He was five shots better than South Hills Country Club's Jimmy Ellis and PAGA member Tom Ballinger.

Bob Crnjarich of Diamond Run edged Hannastown's Sean Knapp for top honors in the Senior division. Crnjarich shot a 146 and Knapp a 147.

St. Clair's David Brown was third with a 149.

Indiana's Don Erickson III won the Super Senior division by edging Hershey's Mike Owsik, 151-153.
