Stingrays send 2 to hospital after encounters off Daytona Beach: report

Two stingrays in two separate incidents stung Daytona Beach visitors on Sunday.

The incidents happened within a 2-mile radius and within 30 minutes, Chief Deputy Tammy Malphurs of Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue told WESH.

Both victims, in the incidents, stepped on the stingrays before the stingrays stung them in retaliation.

One victim, a Maryland woman, had part of a stingray barb stuck in the bottom of her foot, WESH reported.

Officials took the victims to the hospital as a precaution, as some people can have an allergic reaction to the attack.
