Stock market closes up on a day when Vince Dooley and UGA officials ring closing bell

Days before his 90th birthday, former Georgia football coach Vince Dooley joined UGA president Jere Morehead, athletic director Josh Brooks and others with connections to the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game to ring the New York Stock Exchange closing bell Thursday afternoon.

It came on a day when the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 145.99 points to finish at 31,656.42.

The occasion was to promote the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Games this weekend.

Reigning national champion Georgia plays Oregon at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Georgia Tech faces Clemson at 8 p.m. Monday in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Georgia mascot Hairy Dawg and Georgia Tech mascot Buzz were there along with University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue.

Dooley who celebrates his 90th birthday on Sunday banged a gavel during the ceremony.

ABC college football analyst Jesse Palmer was also there along with Chick-fil-A Chairman Dan T. Cathy and Peach Bowl president/CEO Gary Stokan. Dooley’s wife Barbara also was on hand in New York.
