Stocks mixed at open to kick off December trading

Yahoo Finance Live’s Brad Smith breaks down how markets opened on Thursday.

BRAD SMITH: We're also tracking out of the gate here this morning, the Dow Jones Industrial Average down by about 1/10 of a percent. But, of course, we ripped to the upside yesterday.

Let's take a look at this two-day performance here to see where some of those gains are still locked in. So net positive by about 2% there. But as we mentioned out of the gate, down by about 40 points.

As of right now, the NASDAQ Composite flat. But to the upside, you're seeing that in the green by about 600ths of a percent. Seven points for the tech heavy average in over those past two days. There's another look. That's up by about 4 and 1/2%. We'll round that off to.

And then the S&P 500, you're seeing that up by about 2/10 of a percent or 3.3% over the past two days with yesterday's big move triggered by some of that commentary from Fed Chair Jay Powell.
