Stockton cooling centers open during triple-digit temperatures
As triple-digit temperatures creep into the San Joaquin Valley, staying hydrated and taking shelter in a cool area is key to avoiding any heat-related illness.
Stockton will provide four air-conditioned cooling zones “due to extremely high forecasted temperatures,” Friday through Monday.
“On days with high temperatures, please remember to take precautions. Stay indoors, keep physical activity to a minimum, drink plenty of water, and monitor those who are sensitive to the negative impacts of heat, including elderly, children, those who are ill, and pets," city officials stated in a news release.
Water will be provided at the cooling centers.
Support animals will be the only animals allowed at the cooling centers. They must be on a leash or carrier, city spokesperson Connie Cochran said.
Community members are encouraged to bring their electronic devices, books, and games to enjoy while at the cooling zones, as sports courts and equipment may be in use for scheduled activities, according to city officials.
