The search for a Stockton man accused of shooting and killing his wife has ended.

Sergio Torres was taken into custody in Sidney, Nebraska, after allegedly running a stop sign on Thursday night. Officials with the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said that when a Sidney Police Department officer checked Torres' record, they found the arrest warrant for murder.

Torres, 52, allegedly shot his wife, Sonia Suarez, in the 3600 block of Munford Avenue in Stockton on June 4.

Suarez was transported to a nearby hospital where she later died from her injuries, the sheriff's office said. Officials said that detectives determined that Torres was responsible for her death after an investigation.

Authorities with the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office were unable to locate Torres after his wife's alleged murder and reached out to the public for help. They posted a photo of Torres on their Facebook page and asked that anyone with information regarding the investigation or Torres' whereabouts contact them.

Torres is currently in custody in Nebraska and is waiting for extradition to San Joaquin County, the sheriff's office said.
