Stolen car careens into Southington home, seriously injuring occupants of car
A stolen car careened into a Southington home Thursday night, seriously injuring its driver and passenger but not anyone inside the home.
The red Nissan SUV, stolen from Waterbury, was driving north on Meriden Avenue just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday when the car hit a guardrail and ricocheted off the road and into the corner of a home, Lt. Keith Egan said.
The driver of the car tried to run from the scene but was apprehended by police nearby on Carter Lane, Egan said.
“He sustained obvious, incapacitating injuries and was transported” to a hospital for treatment, Egan said. A passenger in the car also had “obvious injuries” and was taken to a hospital.
An investigation continued Friday and police have not identified either person in the stolen car or any charges against them.
One person inside the home reported leg pain after the crash but declined a trip to the hospital, Egan said. The town’s assistant building inspector declared the home uninhabitable due to the collision and its community services department assisted the family.
