From ELLE Decor

Jonathan Adler’s unabashed irreverence is a quality we all dream of having one day. From the eccentric homes he decorates to the playful decor he designs, achieving the “Adler look” is like replicating a piece of fine art. As a designer and potter by trade, Adler’s work runs the gamut from sculptural chandeliers to decorative acrylic pills. His signature glamour and rule-bending attitude is what has made him a household name for almost three decades and counting.

That said, Adler's beloved high-end designs have always come with an equally high-end price tag—until now. For the first time, Jonathan Adler has partnered with H&M Home—marking the company’s first-ever design collaboration—on a vibrant collection of fun home goods. So whether you’re looking to step up your home decor game or want to get ahold of that JA piece you’ve been dreaming of, this collection offers a rare opportunity to refresh your interiors with a renowned designer’s work.

With over three dozen pieces to shop through, you can expect everything from sculptures to vases, mugs to candles, even pillows and throws. Prices range from $13 for porcelain tassel ornaments to $200 for a Jacquard-knit wool throw. You can view the entire collection here.

In celebration of the launch, we caught up with Adler for the inside scoop on how he brought the collection to life.

ELLE DECOR: Why did you choose to collaborate with H&M Home for this collection?

JONATHAN ADLER: H&M has built a global fashion juggernaut, and H&M Home is no slouch either. I’m in awe of what they’re creating. So when H&M Home calls, you pick up the phone! They’re committed to delivering fabulous products to people at fabulous prices. What’s not to like?

ED: What was your approach to choosing which items you would include in the collection? Was this decision-making process a challenge?

JA: The challenge was not being able to include every item I wanted to include–it’s a holiday capsule collection. I’m a restless designer, and the more I make the more I want to make.

ED: What was your biggest source of inspiration behind the Jonathan Adler x H&M Home collection?

JA: I kept coming back to the word “wonderland” when I was designing. I think it captures the fantasy and festivity of the collection—and the season.

ED: Over the past decade, great design has become much more accessible. Has a change in demand from consumers had any effect on your decision to collaborate with H&M?

JA: We live in an “anything goes” world where people mix high with low, new with vintage, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m thrilled to be able to tap into H&M Home’s unparalleled production capabilities and vast network of stores around the globe.

ED: Did you have a design ethos that you kept in mind while developing this collection?

JA: I describe my work using three—Modern American Glamour—and the same is true for my collection with H&M Home.

ED: What would you say to someone who believes that eclecticism can only exist in the world of high-end design?

JA: I’d say, “You’re wrong!” Maybe I’m biased, but if my defaced urn with H&M Home doesn’t say “bold and eclectic” I don’t know what does—and that’s BEFORE there’s a plume of ostrich feathers in it!
