Storage Fire reignites in Palo Pinto County near Possum Kingdom Lake, officials say

A wildfire that had burned nearly 1,000 acres in Palo Pinto County reignited Friday afternoon, officials said.

The fire rekindled on the right flank and moved across containment lines, Texas A&M Forest Service said on social media.

“Ground crews and aircraft responded to contain the additional growth. Forward progression was stopped,” the agency posted.

The wildfire, dubbed the Storage Fire by the forest service, has burned 975 acres since it started June 28 and was 50% contained as of Friday afternoon, officials said.

A mandatory evacuation for three communities in the Possum Kingdom Lake area -- Gaines Bend, Hells Gate and Sportsman World -- were rescinded June 30.

The Texas National Guard deployed Blackhawk military helicopters to dump water and fire retardant on the blaze. Fire departments from Fort Worth, Grand Prairie and other North Texas cities have also sent assistance.

Officials had announced Tuesday that the fire was 100% contained, Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV reported.
