Store hours for Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday

Meijer, Kroger, Big Lots to open on Thanksgiving

Despite more stores closing on Thanksgiving than in years past, a number of retailers, including Kroger, Meijer, Big Lots and Walgreens, will remain open for last-minute dishes, gifts and prescriptions.

All Big Lots locations nationwide will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, and offer extended hours throughout the Black Friday weekend.

Columbus Kroger stores will open at their regular times on Thursday for Thanksgiving Day, and close at 5 p.m.

And most Walgreens locations will be open for regular hours on Thanksgiving, though hours may vary.

Several other stores are expected to open on Thanksgiving:

  • Meijer: Open 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • CVS: Open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  • Dollar General: Open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  • Dollar Tree: Open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  • Whole Foods: Open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

While some Giant Eagle locations will remain open during normal business hours, others will be closed, including locations at McCutcheon & Stelzer on the Northeast Side, the company's Market District stores in Grandview Yard, Bexley and Upper Arlington, and many GetGo gas stations. Be sure to check your local store hours online.

Despite Walmart announcing it would offer holiday meal items at last year's prices, the supercenter will not actually be open on Thanksgiving Day.

Walmart is joining Target, which has closed during the holiday for the last three years, sparking others to follow.

Regional and national retailers that will be closed on Thanksgiving, and when they'll reopen on Black Friday:

  • BJ's Wholesale Club: reopens at 8 a.m. Friday

  • Trader Joe's: reopens at 8 a.m.

  • Aldi: reopens at 9 a.m.

  • Costco: reopens at 9 a.m.

  • Sam's Club: reopens at 8 a.m. for plus members, 10 a.m. for club members

  • Staples: varies by location

  • Lowe's: reopens at 6 a.m.

  • Macy's: reopens at 6 a.m.

  • Kohl's: reopens at 5 a.m.

  • Best Buy: most reopen at 5 a.m. but varies by location

  • Marshalls: reopens at 7 a.m.

  • The Home Depot: reopens at 6 a.m.

  • DSW: reopens at 8 a.m. (unless mall or center dictates otherwise)

  • T.J. Maxx: reopens at 9:30 a.m.

Black Friday hours for stores open on Thanksgiving:

  • Kroger: reopens at 6 a.m. or regular opening hours

  • Meijer: reopens at 6 a.m.

  • Big Lots: reopens at 6 a.m.
