Pike Creek Community Hardware opens at former Kmart

Pike Creek Community Hardware opened on July 1 in the Pike Creek Shopping Center on Limestone Road. The family-owned store is in a portion of a former Kmart.

Pike Creek Community Hardware is the fourth store under the Community Hardware name. The other Community Hardware stores are in Smyrna, Laurel and Pennsville, New Jersey, the first of which opened in 2008.

According to leasing materials from the shopping center's developer Regency Centers, Edge Fitness will take the remaining portion of the former Kmart for its second Delaware location.

New restaurants in New Castle County

Work has begun on a handful of new restaurants throughout New Castle County while others are opening their doors.

The Korean Fried Chicken restaurant Bonchon and Jersey Mike's recently opened in The Grove at Newark, the mixed-use development taking the place of the College Square shopping center between Library Avenue and Marrows Road.

The development will also include Delaware's first Raising Cane's. The fast-food restaurant will be a new construction on the south side of the center and could open early next year, according to Brad Clason, a spokesperson for the project's developer Fusco Management.

The developer has signed letters of intent with a Middle Eastern fast-casual restaurant, a Mexican fast-casual restaurant and a Mexican full-service restaurant. They are also in conversations with a national coffee shop chain and a breakfast and lunch restaurant, Clason said.

A restaurant called Catch 45 is taking the place of the former Meadow's ice cream shop on Kirkwood Highway south of Polly Drummond Hill Road, near Newark. Kirkwood Diner is taking over the former Pizza Hut on Kirkwood Highway just north of Duncan Road, near Prices Corner.

Cheddar's, a comfort food restaurant chain founded in Texas, will take the place of Old Country Buffet next to Miller's Ale House in Center Pointe Plaza in Stanton, according to marketing materials. It will be the second Cheddar's in Delaware, joining the chain's Camden location on Route 13.

Signs for Wegmans are up in Greenville

Construction crews recently affixed signs to the Wegmans being built in Greenville. The company says it will open the store this fall, but has not offered a more specific timetable.

Other businesses coming to the shopping center include the following:

  • First Watch: A Florida-based chain serving American-style breakfast, brunch and lunch.

  • McGlynns Pub: A Delaware sports bar and restaurant

  • La Tolteca: A Mexican restaurant
