A historic Cincinnati jewelry store is officially one of the coolest shops in the United States.

Instore Magazine, an industry magazine for jewelry retailers, published its 2022 list of coolest stores nationwide, and Cincinnati's own Richter & Phillips made the cut.

The 126-year-old Downtown gem took third place in the outlet's Big Cool division, which features stores that employ six or more people. Businesses are judged by their interior and exterior appearance, biography, marketing, online presence and overall individuality, a press release says.

Judges pointed to the family-owned Richter & Phillips' Vault event space, which is used for private shopping and can be rented for free; surprise and delight program for customers; annual events; 3D ring designer; clever billboards; behind-the-scenes tours and favorable Google reviews.

“We have a few remarkable moments up our sleeves,” Rebecca Schaeper, Richter & Phillips director of marketing, said. “I think it was our surprise and delight efforts that caught the attention of Instore. The little things we do and offer that we don’t advertise, but go a long way with customers, turning them in to lifelong clients."

The top three winners for Big Cool and Small Cool, the category for smaller shops, are featured in Instore's September issue.
