Stores Shuttered at St Petersburg Mall as Corporations Cut Off Russia

US and European retailers shut down operations across Russia amid the country’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, as seen in footage taken at a shopping mall in St Petersburg.

Video filmed by Instagram user @natashasrussia, who said it was filmed on March 9, shows multiple store closures at the Galeria Shopping Mall after companies announced temporary suspensions of business.

“The most expensive brands are closed, but the ones that we use the most are open,” she said.

Starbucks, KFC, McDonald’s, and Burger King remained open in the mall, as seen later in the footage.

Long lines formed outside McDonald’s locations in Moscow on March 8 following the company’s announcement that it would temporarily close restaurants and pause operations in Russia, local media reported.

Large crowds were also seen at retailers such as IKEA after the company announced a pause of operations in Russia and Belarus on March 3, according to local news reports. Credit: @natashasrussia via Storyful
