My name is La’Raunce Walker and I work for Halifax Health. My son, LaThyn, is 10 years old. The FBHCommunity program that I am a part of is the FBH Prosperity initiative which helps clients work toward homeownership, and I am working hard to be in Homes Bring Hope and achieve my lifelong dream of owning a home.

Unfortunately, due to the recent hurricanes, I was in a situation of crisis and my current home was uninhabitable. The FBH Community assisted me through a very difficult time in my life. They assisted me with my rent for the duration of my lease which was a tremendous blessing and provided the stability I needed to stand back up and continue moving forward after nearly losing everything.

I had no idea what I was going to do or where to even turn to, but with the help of my employer and the FBH Community, I am in a better mental and emotional state; I can think clearly and my son and I have renewed hope. LaThyn and I are regular volunteers at our church, Powerhouse Church of God in Christ, and we serve as often as we can around my work and his football schedule. I never imagined that I would be in need of the help and support that we do our best to provide as faithful stewards in our community. If there is anyone out there that is afraid to ask for help, please don’t hesitate to step out and reach out to the FBH Community!

LaThyn and I have the same Christmas wish this year and I am working very hard to figure out how to provide it for us. Our wish is to visit my mom, LaThyn’s Grandma, via airplane because Amtrack is sold out. Grandma is celebrating a milestone birthday on Christmas Day and LaThyn wants nothing more than to hand deliver her birthday card and flowers alongside his uncle and enjoy this special day together.
