Storm stay perfect with win against Cambridge-Isanti

SAUK RAPIDS — Sauk Rapids scored on the opening kickoff and never looked back against Cambridge-Isanti Friday night.

Mason Rudolph scooped up a squib kick by Cambridge-Isanti and carried it 52 yards for the Storm's fist six points of the game. In the second quarter Andrew Harren caught a 28-yard pass from Keegan Patterson to give the storm a 16-0 lead.

Torrential rain for most of the first half made moving the ball difficult for both teams.

Deagn Gondeck picked up a fumble and ran 59 yards for the Storm's third touchdown of the first half. The teams went to the locker room with Sauk Rapids ahead 22-0.

Cambridge-Isanti scored on two running plays in the second half to make the final 22-12.

Shaun Walrath lead the team with 10 tackles followed by Travis Biery with six and nine assists.

Sauk Rapids will travel to Bemidji next week. The Lumberjacks are 0-4 after a 19-7 loss to Brainerd Friday night.

ROCORI continues to roll

The Spartans stayed undefeated at 5-0 with a 54-6 win against Chisago Lakes in Cold Spring.

Jack Spanier connected with Hunter Nistler for a 62-yard pass play to start the scoring for ROCORI.

Mason Dahl ran for a nine yard touchdown and Gabe Johnson rushed 11 yards for another in the first quarter. Johnson scored again on a 41-yard run and Jaden Lopau returned a fumble 26 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. A 13-yard pass for a touchdown from Spanier to Evan Acheson gave the Spartans a 40-0 lead at haftime.

ROCORI travels to Hutchinson next week for one of the key matchups in the state. Hutchinson is ranked No. 1 and ROCORI No. 2 in the Associated Press Class 4A poll.

Sartell comes up short against Willmar

The Sabres fell to Willmar 14-6 at home Friday night in a gritty game.

Willmar scored first on a 11-yard run and extra point. Sartell quarterback Cole Hentges scored on a nine-yard run with 15 seconds left in the first half. A run for the two-point conversion failed to make the score 7-6.

Neither team crossed the goal line in the second half until the final minute of the game when the Cardinals scored on a 32-yard quarterback keeper to win 14-6.

The Sabres are now 1-4 and will travel to Moorhead next Friday night.

Other area action

St. Cloud Tech fell to 0-5 with a 18-7 loss to Monticello Friday night in St. Cloud. The Tigers will face crosstown rival Apollo next Friday night at 7:00 at Michie Field.

Cathedral and Litchfield squared off Friday night at St. John's University with the Dragons coming away with a 28-8 win. The Crusaders are now 1-3 and will host Milaca next week. Milaca is 4-0 after a 20-19 win against Princeton.

Albany shut out Little Falls 30-0 to improve to 2-2 Friday night at Michael Field. The Huskies scored twice on runs in the first quarter and added a fumble return in the second quarter and an interception return in the fourth. They will face Princeton next week.

St. Cloud Apollo had a bye week.
