Storm Surge Covers Rhode Island Street

An intense winter storm carrying rain, strong wind, and plummeting temperatures hit the northeastern United States on Friday, December 23, with Rhode Island experiencing gusts over 60 mph, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

The storm was expected to cause “minor nuisance flooding” in the area, according to the NWS.

Video shared by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation shows the storm surge and high tide causing flooding on Poppasquash Road in Bristol on Friday morning. The road was closed as a result, the department said.

“Remember, never drive through floodwaters,” the department wrote on Twitter. Credit: RIDOTNews via Storyful
