Storm sweeps through Staunton and surrounding areas: Where The News Leads

Hello, and welcome to Where the News Leads! This weekly series will be centered around some of the stories we've written here at The News Leader.

It can be a space for us to respond to your comments and questions, drop cool tidbits that we had to cut from stories, or just look ahead at what's coming up in the Shenandoah Valley.

On this edition, we deviate from our usual format to talk about the storm that swept through the area Wednesday evening. Our reporters Katelyn Waltemyer, Laura Peters, and I went out throughout the evening to capture some of what was happening around the city, and we share some of what we saw.

The storm could have lasting effects stemming not only from damage around the city, but also as more stormy weather approaches in the coming days.

After we recap our journey into the storm, we then take our usual tour around public meetings in the area. First off, the Augusta County School Board is set to meet tonight, as they hold a public hearing on school safety, as well as receive an update on the middle school construction project.

On Monday, the Staunton School Board is set to meet at Staunton City Hall in the council chambers at 6 p.m., and Waynesboro City Council is set to meet for their work session and regular meeting, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
