Storm threat includes risk of funnel clouds in parts of southern Ontario

After Ontario saw its first tornado of the season Tuesday, the threat can't be ruled out for Wednesday as conditions are favourable for funnel clouds once again.

Widespread weather advisories are in place for communities in and around the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

The risk is part of an overall thunderstorm chance that extends from the GTA and Kitchener-Waterloo to Niagara and east towards Oshawa.

These thunderstorms are expected to be non-severe in nature, however, there is the risk for funnel clouds. These funnel clouds can develop under a rapidly developing thunderstorms and generally do not pose a risk.

There is a low chance that one of these funnel clouds can be stronger and robust, which can then develop into a landspout tornado. These tornadoes are typically weak and short-lived, but they should still be taken seriously and you should seek shelter if one develops.

These storms are very difficult to see on radar, so in some instances, there can be little to no warning.
