Storm Warnings Downgraded for New Orleans as Hurricane Sally Moves East
Hurricane Sally, moving slowly eastward as a Category 1 storm, churned waters in the Gulf of Mexico and caused strong storm surges for most of the coastal region on Tuesday, September 15.

The storm was on track to hit New Orleans directly, but changed course overnight Monday into Tuesday, moving eastward toward the Mississippi-Alabama state line instead, reports said.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) on Tuesday morning discontinued a tropical storm warning it had issued for Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Maurepas, and the metropolitan New Orleans area.
