Storms to hit North Texas on Friday evening and into weekend with chance of flooding
A few strong or severe storms and heavy rain are expected to hit the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service. Rain and the possibility of storms will continue on into the weekend, and some flooding is possible.
Chances of rain and thunderstorms will increase into the afternoon and evening Friday as an upper level disturbance approaches from the southwest. Storm activity will move in from the west and northwest.
The best chances of rain and storms will be along and west of Interstate 35.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued by the NWS at 3:40 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday for parts of Texas, including Wichita Falls, Bowie, Gainesville and Graham. Storms could contain large hail up to 2 inches in diameter as they arrive from the west. Hail and damaging winds up to 70 mph are the main threats. The watch so far is not in effect for Tarrant County but does include neighboring Wise, Parker, and Hood counties, and more areas west of Interstate 35. Flash flooding is also possible.

“Some storms could be strong or even severe, with large hail and damaging winds, and even a tornado or two cannot be ruled out,” the NWS said in Friday’s forecast.

Heavy rain may also cause flooding in some locations.
The Dallas-Fort Worth area is expected to see anywhere from 1 to 1.5 inches of rain over the weekend.
The greatest threat for flooding will be west of Dallas and Fort Worth.
“A Flood Watch has been posted for western portions of North and Central Texas where instances of flash flooding, widespread nuisance flooding, and some mainstem river flooding could occur,” the NWS said.

Scattered thunderstorms containing heavy rainfall are anticipated the rest of the weekend and into early next week. Widespread severe weather is not anticipated. But strong storms with small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain are possible.
After Thursday’s storms, an NWS survey team confirmed a brief EF-1 tornado with maximum winds of 90 mph occurred near Highway 180 in Palo Pinto County.
