Storms leave nearly 4,500 without power

Jul. 13—More than 4,500 homes are without power Tuesday after strong storms rolled through the region just after 4 a.m.

Duquesne Light reported nearly 2,800 customers without utility service.

About 250 homes are affected in Lawrenceville and another 110 in Churchill. Nearly 50 homes in Fox Chapel also are impacted.

Allegheny Power reported about 1,700 regional customers without power, including 100 each in Allegheny and Armstrong counties and 1,500 in Westmoreland.

According to the utility website, a cluster of about 1,500 homes in Murrysville are affected and another 500 near New Kensington.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh expired its severe thunderstorm warning just before 5 a.m. but said a slight chance of showers remain throughout the day.

Temperatures are expected to climb near 87 degrees.

The severe storms are wreaking havoc on local roads.

Shaler police blocked a portion of Seavey Road for flooding at about 4:30 a.m.

The road is closed between Elbe Drive and Soose Road.
