Update, 11/15, 8:00 A.M.: TMZ has now changed its report to clarify that the woman involved was not Michael Avenatti's estranged wife. Attorneys for Lisa Storie-Avenatti have said she was not subject to any such incident, and that she has never known Michael to be physically violent.

Michael Avenatti has also released a statement, calling the allegation "bogus" and saying he has "never been physically abusive."

Original, 11/14, 6:20 P.M.: Michael Avenatti has been arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence, according to reports from TMZ and The Hollywood Reporter.

Avenatti's estranged wife reportedly filed the felony domestic violence report on Tuesday, and he was subsequently arrested on Wednesday. TMZ reports that the woman's face was "swollen and bruised" and that Avenatti "kicked her out of the apartment" on Tuesday, but she went back to get her belongings on Wednesday and called law enforcement to standby "in case things got heated."

Avenatti made headlines when he became the lawyer for Stormy Daniels, who says she was forced to sign a non-disclosure agreement regarding a sexual encounter she had with President Donald Trump before he was elected to office.

In August, Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen admitted that he paid two women, presumably including Daniels, "in coordination with and at the direction of a candidate for federal office," which many took to mean Trump.

Avenatti has also been talking himself up as a potential presidential candidate in 2020. Before the midterm elections, he told BuzzFeed News, "I honestly have not made a decision. It’s a big decision. I did not plan my life around this. There’s a bunch of things that, had I planned my life around this, that I did, that I would not have done. And there’s a bunch of things that I should have done that I didn’t do."

According to the Associated Press, Avenatti is currently in police custody in Los Angeles.
