Stott named Reading Figthin Phils MVP for 2021 season

Sep. 13—Infielder Bryson Stott was the big winner when the Reading Fightin Phils announced their 2021 Player awards Sunday night at First Energy Stadium.

The middle infielder was named the Fightins' Most Valuable Player and winner of the Big Stick Award.

The awards were presented on the night that was scheduled to be Reading's final home game of the season. But the final six-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats was canceled because of coronavirus protocols for the New Hampshire team.

Stott, selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the first round of the 2019 draft with the 14th pick, arrived in Reading in June after starting the season at Single-A Jersey Shore.

In 76 games with the Double-A Fightin Phils, Stott batted .296 with 21 doubles, 10 home runs and 35 RBIs. Stott played in the 2021 Futures All-Star Game in July.

Other award winners were Madison Stokes, Broadway Charlie Wagner Unsung Hero Award; Matt Kroon, stolen base leader; Francisco Morales, strikeout leader; Josh Stephen, Clutch Player; and Brian Marconi, Pitcher of the Year.

Marconi pitched in 32 games, going 1-2 with a 2.38 ERA and 13 saves. In 41 2/3 innings, Marconi struck out 53 batters and allowed only 28 hits.

Stokes batted .240 with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs in a team-high 94 games.

Stephen played in 93 games, batting .203 with a team-high 42 RBIs.

Kroon had six stolen bases in 42 games. Morales struck out 101 batters in a team high 78 innings.

The Fightin Phils will conclude the season with a six-game series in Binghamton starting Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
