Stow, Hudson, Highland, Revere win Suburban League cross country team titles

NORTON — A steady wind was not about to slow down Stow senior Micah Bentley and junior Jayla Atkinson on Saturday at Silver Creek Metro Park.

Revere senior Megan Diulus and Highland senior Elijah Hadler were not interested in letting strong gusts of wind affect them, either.

Suburban League cross country championships were up for grabs and dealing with the weather conditions comes with the territory of being a cross country runner.

Jayla Atkinson, Megan Diulus run to victories

Atkinson and Diulus each completed the 3.1-mile course in a time of 19:25.8 to place first in the SL National Conference and SL American Conference, respectively.

Revere won the SLAC girls team title with 29 points and Tallmadge was second with 48 points.

Revere junior Ellie Meech placed second behind Diulus in 19:59.2 and freshman Keira Lang was fourth in 20:01.6.

Highland senior Kelsey Sheridan took third in the SLAC girls race in 20:00.2. The other runners in the SLAC top 10 were Aurora senior Grace Barto, Revere freshman Caroline Wilson, Tallmadge freshman Ally Hay, Barberton sophomore Hannah Swanson, Tallmadge sophomore Amelia Ross and Kent Roosevelt junior Jeanie Barzellato.

Freshman Katelyn Will placed second behind Atkinson in the SLNC girls race in 20:08.6 to guide Hudson to a team crown with 49 points. Stow took second with 56 points.

Stow junior Deena Ingrassia crossed the finish line third in the SLNC girls race in 20:19.7. The other runners in the SLNC top 10 were North Roylaton sophomore Haris Giannakidis, Nordonia freshman Emerson Beery, Hudson sophomore Savannah Reaper, Wadsworth junior Kailyn Biecker, Brecksville junior Kate Butler, Stow senior Sydney Pitcovich and Hudson freshman Abby Henderson.

Micah Bentley, Elijah Hadler triumph

Hadler led Highland (46 points) to a team title in the SLAC boys meet by crossing the finish line first in a time of 15:58.9. Aurora took second with 72 points.

Copley junior Dylan Wood finished second in the SLAC boys race in 16:06.0 and Cuyahoga Falls senior Jacob Norton was third in 16:24.8.

The other runners in the SLAC top 10 were Highland sophomore Ty Sgambati, Tallmadge junior Joey Naiman, Highland senior Ayden Boucher, Aurora junior Robert Will, Revere sophomore Anthony DeRubeis, Revere senior Akshay Elango and Aurora sophomore Zachary Ploskunak.

Bentley compiled a time of 16:31.4 to take the title in the SLNC boys race. His efforts helped Stow finish first with 52 points. Hudson placed second with 56 points.

Nordonia senior Chris Turner clocked the second-best time in the SLNC boys race with a 16:39.0 and Stow senior Zachary Shawala was third in 16:48.0.

The other runners in the SLNC top 10 were Hudson senior Colin LeVan, Twinsburg juniors Koren Goss and Sam Wales-McGrath, Hudson sophomore George Barker, Stow senior Connor Scarberry, Brecksville junior Ryan Kerber and Nordonia sophomore Kaden Seredick.
