A New South Wales couple realized they were bringing more than memories home with them from holidays recently when a green snake popped out from under the hood of their car as they drove along.

Video posted to TikTok by Kerry Jenkins shows the snake emerging from the hood and whipping from side to side as the couple discuss what to do, and where they might be able to pull over.

Jenkins told Storyful that she and her family were returning home from holiday in Darlington Beach and had been driving for 250 kilometres when they saw the snake emerge.

“We were 30 km from home when we noticed a yellow and green head. I grabbed the phone and started recording. We didn’t know what to do,” she said.

After they took the first available exit, Jenkins said she saw the snake fall under the car. However, they then spotted it sliding back up into the motor, and tried without success to remove it.

Jenkins said once they arrived home they discovered the snake was still in the vehicle. “My son tried to catch him and get him out and he darted back into the motor,” she added.

Jenkins told Storyful that she and her partner lifted up the hood to check again on December 5, and saw the snake once more wriggle out of view. Credit: Kerry Jenkins via Storyful
