The trailer for season two of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is finally here – and it brings back a classic Star Trek race.

Not only does the trailer see the return of Paul Wesley's James T Kirk and the debut of Chief Engineer Pelia (played by Carol Kane), but it also introduces us to some normal-looking Klingons.

The humanoid alien species turned up in Star Trek: Discovery season one, but their redesign was met with harsh criticism from fans due to their new bald looks and changed facial structures as a result of latex masks.

The criticism seems to have been heeded in season two of Strange New Worlds, as we see Spock toasting some blood wine with two Klingons, who bear similarity to the old-school Klingons from The Next Generation.

Elsewhere, it looks like season two could be setting up a romance between Kirk and Christina Chong's La’an Noonien-Singh, who is the descendant of Kirk’s future enemy, Khan Noonien Singh.

This season will also feature a previously announced special crossover episode combining live-action and animation, with Star Trek: Below Decks' Tawny Newsome as Beckett Mariner and Jack Quaid as Brad Boimler joining the USS Enterprise.

In other Star Trek news, an original Star Trek movie starring starring Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh is currently in the works.

Star Trek: Section 31 is set to follow Yeoh's Emperor Philippa Georgiou as she guards the United Federation of Planets after joining a Starfleet secret division.

"I'm beyond thrilled to return to my Star Trek family and to the role I've loved for so long," Yeoh said in a statement. "Section 31 has been near and dear to my heart since I began the journey of playing Philippa all the way back when this new golden age of Star Trek launched."
