Alongside all the monster-fighting and '80s nostalgia, relationships play a big part in the third season of Stranger Things. Now, Millie Bobby Brown has defended her character Eleven's romance with Mike Wheeler.

Some fans have insisted that the pair are more dynamic as best friends than they are boyfriend and girlfriend, but the 15-year-old actress disagrees, saying she "always saw them in love".

"It's so much fun, you know, it's really exciting," she told Digital Spy. "Eleven is full of love and she's so excited for her new relationship with Mike. I think it's just relatable and you can totally see it happening in real life."

Talking about sharing emotionally intimate scenes with co-star Finn Wolfhard – who brings Mike to life – Millie admitted that it was "really easy" to shoot.

"We were in a safe environment where we felt comfortable with each other," she explained. "It was really fun."

While Millie may be a fan of Eleven and Mike as a couple, Noah Schnapp's character Will Byers isn't so keen on the idea – especially because his other friends, Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) and Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), also have new girlfriends.

"We're not kids anymore," Mike yells at Will in one of the new episodes, after the latter gets upset that no one seems to want to play Dungeons and Dragons with him these days.

"I mean, what did you think, really? That we were never going to get girlfriends? That we’re just going to sit in my basement playing games for the rest of our lives?"

Harsh, Mike. Harsh.

Stranger Things 3 is currently streaming on Netflix.
