'Stranger Things' Star Maya Hawke Releases Two New Songs While Dad Ethan Cheers Her On

Maya Hawke is a woman of many talents and she just kicked off her music career with the support of her famous father.

Fans of the hit show "Stranger Things" got the chance to hear Maya Hawke hilariously belt “Total Eclipse of the Heart” in a scene opposite Joe Keery, and now the actress is releasing music of her own and it's really good.

Maya, 21, wrote the lyrics to "To Love a Boy" and "Stay Open."

Hawke posted a snippet and a cover for the single to her Instagram, captioning it, "Here is a snippet from one of the first two songs I’m going to release (lyrics by me music by Jesse Harris) and preview of the cover for this A side/B side single. They will be released on August 16th and I’m playing a show to celebrate at the Sultan Room in Williamsburg on August 21st. Link for tickets is in my bio."

The breakout actress told Vogue that she wrote “To Love a Boy,” about wanting to feel the same way about a man as she does about the ocean, when she was hoping to fall in love, and that “Stay Open” came a year and a half later, when she’d finally fallen in love.

“That song was much more based in reality, the practical experience of opening your heart to another person, and really allowing them and accepting them into your life,” she told the Vogue.

Her father, Ethan Hawke, praised his daughter on the release on Instagram, sharing a photo of the album art and writing, “These two gorgeous new songs released yesterday by @maya_hawke. Check them out on Spotify and iTunes. Album to follow.”

Maya skyrocketed to fame in July as Robin on season three of "Stranger Things". She also had a brief role in Quentin Tarantino’s "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", following in the footsteps of mom Uma Thurman, who has long served as the director’s muse.

This is just the beginning for the talented young lady.
