Spoiler alert for the Season 4 finale of Stranger Things on Netflix.

Vol. 2 of Stranger Things 4 is now out there, and we finally know the full backstory of Vecna, née Henry, the artist formerly known as 001. But while the season finale, "The Piggyback," included a climactic showdown between the monstrous killer and Eleven in Max's mind, not to mention a very real battle out in the real world, there were no real winners or losers.

Sure, Steve, Nancy and Robin torched Vecna's physical body, but not before he was able to secure his fourth "kill" in Max, officially tearing open the wall between Hawkins and the Upside Down. And it looks like they haven't seen the last of him. The season ended on a huge cliffhanger, with a comatose Max lying bed-bound in the hospital, and the horrors of the Upside Down emerging in Hawkins.

A new video from the Heavy Spoilers channel reviews the events of the finale, and pinpoints some specific details which may offer some indication as to how Vecna will return in the fifth and final season, and who his next victim might be.

Max

Eleven succeeds in restarting Max's heart in the finale, but when she tries to reach into her mind, she finds nothing there. One theory is that Max has been left braindead, and is now an "empty vessel" that could be possessed or used as a weapon by Vecna in the upcoming final season, and that Vecna's consciousness might even be "hiding out" in the recesses of Max's mind, much like a remnant of the Mind Flayer acted like a parasite and used Will as a hiding place back in Season 2.

Will

In the finale, Will reveals to Mike that he has retained some kind of link to the Mind Flayer, and that he can "feel" that Vecna is still alive. In Season 5, this could mean Will may become a puppet of Vecna. (Alternatively, it might mean that the gang are able to use this link to their advantage.)

Dustin

Following the death of Eddie in "The Piggyback," Dustin is shown mourning his friend and doing the best he can to repair his tarnished reputation. As we know that Vecna has a track record of preying on people who are harboring feelings of guilt and grief, could this make Dustin his next target within the group?

Eleven

Love and connection have been shown to empower Eleven, as hearing Mike's voice in the finale is what gives her the strength to continue to fight. This video speculates that with the return of Hopper and Joyce in the closing moments of the finale, Eleven finally has the support of her entire family unit which prove critical in helping her to defeat Vecna in Season 5.
