Stranger tries to lure Bloomfield Hills student with candy

The Bloomfield Hills School District will see an increased police presence after a stranger attempted to lure an elementary student with candy.

According to a news release from the Bloomfield Township Police Department, the incident occurred between 3:55 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. on Sept. 7. An unidentified stranger approached a Way Elementary student on school property, encouraging the child to get in his vehicle and promising candy upon arrival to his home.

The stranger is described as a thin, white male between the ages of 30 and 40 and approximately 6 feet tall. He was seen wearing jeans and a gray hoodie, with light-colored hair and facial hair.

“The Bloomfield Township Police Department applauds this student for being diligent of their surroundings and notifying a trusted adult of the situation. We are working closely with the school district on this incident, and our School Resource Officers are investigating this matter,” said the release.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with further information is encouraged to contact the police department.
