Strasburg hires director of pupil services

KEY ACTION: Matt Carpenter was given a two-year contract as the director of pupil services, effective Aug. 1. He teaches seventh-grade historical literacy within a co-teach setting at Oakwood Middle School, which is part of Plain Local Schools in Stark County. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Afghanistan. He is married and has two sons.

DISCUSSION: Superintendent Vince Lindsey said Carpenter will be working with students and staff to provide support. Lindsey said he will be working with special education, homelessness, Buckeye Career Center, and counselors, and the district plans to apply for a Purple Heart school designation. The pupil services program, in the past, was offered through the Stark County Educational Service Center.

OTHER ACTION:

  • Accepted the resignation of Ron Miller, boys’ basketball coach and physical education teacher, effective at the end of the 2022-23 school year.

  • Entered into an agreement with Ohio Flooring to repair the damage caused by a water pipe leak in the rear hall of the high school. All expenses will be paid by insurance funds.

  • Granted one-year supplemental coaching contracts to Kaylyn Archer, varsity volleyball; Ron Hurst, cross country; and Troy McClellan, varsity boys’ golf.

  • Lauded Tonya Ronald, Teacher of the Year, Josh Loar, Rookie of the Year, Hope Haney, Art Educator of the Year.

  • Chrissy Raderchak, band president, said the band received $46,000 in grants and donations and was able to upgrade 20 instruments.
