Strasburg hires Vincent Lindsey Jr. as new superintendent

STRASBURG – Vincent Lindsey Jr. was given a three-year contract, effective Aug. 1, as the new superintendent of the Strasburg-Franklin Local School District.

Lindsey was approved as superintendent at the board meeting held Wednesday.

He has served in education for 17 years, 11 as an administrator. He began teaching in Plain Local Schools, where he stayed from 2005-12. He served as an assistant principal at Alliance Middle School from 2012-14 and most recently has served as Massillon Middle School Principal since 2014.

“I am thankful for my time in Massillon City Schools. The board of education, Mr. Salvino and district administration are a fantastic team. Massillon has a wonderful, amazing staff and great students,” he said. “Strasburg-Franklin Local Schools has a community that takes pride in their school and students. The feeling of community is evident as I begin to develop relationships with community members. That Tiger Pride is contagious.”

Lindsey and his wife, Emily, have two children Chloe, a sophomore at Ohio State University, and Vinnie, a seventh-grader at Oakwood Middle School in Plain Local.

“The board is excited to have Mr. Lindsey as our next leader of the district. It became clear in our search that he will not only carry on the current success, but build upon it. He has a great deal of dedication, excitement and enthusiasm that is shown through his energy for kids,” said Wes Hostetler, board president.

Lindsey is looking forward to beginning his work within the district.

“I am excited to begin my 'Listen to Learn' tour to work toward a collaboration team approach to continue the great things that occur within Strasburg-Franklin Local Schools,” he said.

As an administrator at Massillon, he was integral to develop a Strong Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) system and leading the middle school efforts toward promoting college and career readiness.

There were 15 candidates for the position. The board interviewed three candidates.

After an executive session, the board approved 10 days per diem to Lindsey prior to Aug. 1.
