Strasburg school board approves opening of Little Tiger Preschool

KEY ACTION: After an executive session, the board approved the opening of the Little Tiger Preschool for the 2023-24 school year.

DISCUSSION: The preschool will be housed in the administration building beginning in the fall. Classes will be held four days a week, Monday through Thursday. Only Strasburg children ages 3 to 5 will be admitted. The only exception is if a sibling attends the district through open enrollment.

Registration forms are available at www.strasburgtigers.org, on social media or in the school office. The most the preschool will cost is $160 per month depending on the status of the family. The preschool can accommodate up to 48 children, 24 in the morning and 24 in the afternoon.

The board also granted one-year supplemental contracts to Mary Sue Fierbaugh varsity basketball cheerleading adviser; Chlorissa Curfman, middle school basketball cheerleading adviser; Brooke Spinell, high school assistant track coach; Chad West, Guys with Ties.

OTHER ACTION:

  • Approved the 2023-24 school calendar. The first day of school for students is Aug. 23. The winter break will be held from Dec. 25 to Jan. 5 and the last day for students will be May 31.

  • Learned the high school gym floor will be replaced and the elementary gym floor will be sanded and repaired after a water line break in December that caused major damage. The floors are covered by insurance.

  • Gave approval to Jessica Pillar, substitute nurse from April 10 to May 30, effective March 3 and Tanner Dreher, substitute custodian and cafeteria employee, effective March 7.

FOR YOUR INFO:

  • Safety World will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, June 5-8. All incoming kindergarten students have been invited. They will participate in bicycle safety, learn safety tips from the police and fire departments and hear a driver explain safety on a bus.

  • The spring fling will be held April 11 prior to the beginning of testing on April 12.

  • Kindergarten registration will be held April 26-27.
