Strasburg students honor veterans

STRASBURG – Strasburg fifth grade students led the Veterans Day Celebration held Friday in the elementary gym.

Each branch of the service was recognized and photos of each veteran were displayed in a slideshow. Each veteran received a gift and a favor. About 75 veterans and families attended, plus students in kindergarten to fifth grades.

Strasburg American Legion Charles Hofer Post posted the colors. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by fifth graders Brooklyn Palmer and Lainny Sundheimer. Students that participated in the acrostic poem were Ashlynn Crouse, Logan Malterer, Henry Hershberger, Lainny Sundeimer, Havyn Ramono, Brynlee Baughman, Bella Lindsay, Brooklyn Palmer that spelled Veterans.

Fifth grader Madi Harstine presented information about the POW/ MIA table which was placed in middle of the gym. The table is meant to help remember those who were taken prisoner of war or were missing in action.

A brunch was served. The Strasburg Tiger band played and the fifth grade choir presented 'My Country This of Thee.' Teacher Jessica Barkley organized the event.
