Strasburg Supt

STRASBURG —The Strasburg Franklin Local School District will see a new face guiding the district in 2022-23. Vince Lindsey Jr. was awarded a three-year contract starting Aug. 1.

Classes in the district began on Aug. 17.

Lindsey has served in education for 17 years, 11 as an administrator. He recently served as middle school principal in the Massillon City School District. He is thankful for his years at Massillon.

“I have wanted more growth, getting better and striving for greater things. Strasburg fit my moral and professional goals. It is not 'I', but 'we' and to promote the school, it will be 'us,'” he said,” I came here because, it is a good fit and has good people. The moment I walked through the door, I knew it was a good board of education and a good school district.”

He said that education has never been more challenging, but it never been better.

“We will focus on team leadership working together and building a relationship,” he said,” I have high expectations working toward being the best which includes academics and athletics.”

Lindsey said currently safety and resources are the number one priority. He plans to meet with Police Chief Dave Warrick and Fire Chief Steve Laskey to discuss safety issues in the district.

He has begun a “Listen to Learn” tour to work toward a collaboration team approach to continue the great things to occur within the district. He also plans to focus on team, team, team, not focus on change but focus on the district and staying positive for the students and staff.

Lindsey graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor’s degree in education. He began his college studies in accounting but after just one class he knew that was not his calling. He was still in college when 9/11 happened. It gave him a reason and a passion to teach social studies. In 2003, he visited New York City to attend a New York Yankees baseball game. He noted his love for the New York Yankees.

“I first saw the cross and we visited Ground Zero, it took my breath away,” he said, “It was the quietest place, as people just stood and looked. It gave me a new perspective to teach social studies.”

Lindsey began as an intervention specialist tutor in the GlenOak School District in Plain Township. This position made him an educator and he could understand the needs of student. He eventually transitioned to teaching social studies, and coaching basketball and baseball. He served in the Alliance School District as an administrator for two years. He received his master’s degree and superintendent’s license at Ashland University.

Lindsey and his wife, Emily, have two children, Chloe, a sophomore at The Ohio State University and Vinnie, a seventh grader at Oakwood Middle School in the Plain Township.
