Strasburg Village Council

Tuesday meeting

KEY ACTION: Agreed to replace the waterlines on Weber Avenue SW when a street paving project is completed this year.

DISCUSSION: Village Administrator Ron Lambert said curbs, sidewalks and driveway approaches will be replaced on the west side of Weber Avenue. The street will be repaved from Seventh to Ninth Street SW.

“The waterlines were installed in the 1950s and a different fund will be used to absorb the cost to replace the lines. There have been many waterline breaks on that street. The installation of new waterlines will not tax the budget,” Lambert said.

He said the repairs to Weber Avenue will take most of the paving budget for 2023, but several alleys in that immediate area can also be paved.

OTHER ACTION

  • Agreed to reconstruct the village website. The annual cost will be $6,500, $1,800 for tax forms and a notification system, and a $1,300 annual fee for emails or taxes. The first year the $1,300 will not be charged.

  • Amended the pay ordinance to include an increase in the gas allowance for Fire Chief Steve Laskey from $50 a week to $75 per week. Councilman Martin Zehnder voted no. He gave no reason.

  • Briefly discussed a leaf pickup in the fall but made no decision. Leaves have not been picked up for over 20 years when the village could no longer find a place to spread the leaves.

  • Agreed to visit the Dover Senior Center to ask about developing a satellite location in the village.

FOR YOUR INFO

  • The Lions Club plans to plant a crab apple tree near the gazebo in Franklin Park in memory of the late Walt Stockert, a longtime Lions Club member.

  • Spring Cleanup is set for April 11. Items can be placed with the trash pickup. A list of items accepted is available at village hall.

UP NEXT: Meets at 5 p.m. Feb. 22 at 224 N. Bodmer Ave., changed from Feb. 21.
